This is the story of the police dog who prevents drugs from being distributed through parcels.

A story of courage, determination and a keen sense of smell has been circulating through the streets of Santa Marta, and it has a name: FOX. This intrepid canine, accompanied by her faithful companion, Patrolman Jorge Castro Jiménez, has been fighting a tireless battle against drug trafficking as part of the Santa Marta Metropolitan Police team.

An unbreakable police dog

At just 4 years old, FOX, a Belgian Malinois, has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Metropolitan Police.

Their sense of smell, comparable to that of a fox, is their greatest weapon in detecting narcotics. Together with their human partner, they have made significant seizures, including a recent seizure of more than 16,000 doses of marijuana.

FOX doesn’t stop at any challenge. His skill in detecting drugs has been demonstrated in various situations, from the seizure of marijuana in different presentations to the detection of hidden electronic devices.

Their actions have put criminal networks dedicated to drug trafficking in the region in check, making criminals think twice before sending drugs through the mail.

Results of this police dog

It is important to highlight its latest result, in registration and control activities in courier companies, FOX managed to find 16,000 grams of Marijuana, a narcotic that came in a box from Popayán destined for Santa Marta valued at 40 million pesos.

“It is satisfactory for the Samarios, that we removed 16,000 doses from the streets of Santa Marta thanks to Fox,” said Colonel Jorge Andrés Bernal Granada, Commander of the Metropolitan Police.

He has also managed to seize marijuana in different presentations, the seizure of 480 milliliters of liquid marijuana extract that came in pipettes for vaporization.

As well as the seizure of sealed electronic devices, which are more difficult to detect, are among the operations carried out with great success by “FOX” so far in 2024.

Fox and his partner, Patrolman Jorge Castro Jiménez, provide their services assigned to the Carabineros and Environmental Protection Section of the Metropolitan of Santa Marta, in the K9 Canine Guides group, deploying their daily preventive activities of control and registration of packages, luggage, boxes, parcels, vehicles and people, who transit or make their way as passengers, drivers and users mainly of the Santa Marta Transportation Terminal; work that is also carried out daily at the Citizen Protection Center and at the headquarters of companies dedicated to the transportation of parcels.

A four-legged heroine

FOX’s impact goes beyond police operations. Its preventive work in strategic places such as the Santa Marta Transportation Terminal has prevented drugs from reaching the wrong hands, thus protecting the population, especially the youngest, from the dangers of drug trafficking.

For her tireless dedication, FOX will soon be awarded the Police Canine Merit Medal, a well-deserved recognition of her exceptional work in the fight against crime.

Her participation in civic activities and her interaction with the community demonstrate that she is much more than a police dog; She is a symbol of hope and security for all Samarians.
