At the foot of the building that houses the municipal water supply tanks for the Alfareno homes from Mount La Plana, two holes emerge through which a light stream of water comes out. Having detected it three weeks ago, the municipal socialist group has expressed concern about this loss. Given this, the government group of the Alfaro City Council informs and seeks to reassure: it is a water leak that it aims to solve in the coming days as part of the improvement of the municipal tank facilities.

The water that comes out through these two holes is channeled through a small ditch towards one of the basins of La Plana. “There are many liters of water that are lost,” warned the socialist spokesperson, Yolanda Tarragona, during the questions and answers session of the Corporation’s ordinary plenary session held this Tuesday evening.

Given this concern, the mayor of Environment, Water and General Affairs and spokesperson for the government group, Guadalupe López, framed the situation within the work to improve the supply facilities after the waterproofing carried out in recent weeks on the walls of the two municipal deposits.

He reported that, during the work, it was detected that one of the water inlet valves to the tanks from the supply in Soto del Estajao was very rusty after more than 50 years of service. “When changing the valve, the ‘T’-shaped pipe that connects to the inlet openings of the tanks cracked,” López described. “We have to finish the waterproofing and the valve and then find a budget to put in a new ‘T’.” “The rust broke the ‘T’ valve and this situation is a temporary solution. The final decision will be made when the work is finished,” said the mayor, Yolanda Preciado.

And the solution, while the water continues to come out of that ditch, comes up against administrative procedures. “We have to finish and receive the waterproofing work to be able to contract the other jobs, those of replacing the ‘T’,” López resigns, regretting that this change had not been included in the waterproofing contract. “We didn’t know there was a full previous study until the ‘T’ was broken.” Regarding the solution, he expressed to the plenary session the confidence that “it will be finalized in two weeks.”
