Both public transport companies and national and departmental entities are part of this table, so that it can be established if it is feasible to provide a discount that students and companies benefit from.

The Administrative and Financial Vice-Rector of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, Uptc, Luis Ángel Lara González, explained on Caracol Radio: “due to a manifest need of the representatives to the Academic Council, the university addressed the issue to study the differential rate. However, in the previous analysis, the university did not have sufficient information on the number of students who travel in the central corridor, nor the frequency”. This is why a commission was established with student representatives from the Academic and Higher Councils, and other students, and the Institute for Mobility, who determined the importance of creating a working group.

On Monday, May 6, the first meeting of this table was brought forward, in which they were the transport companies, the Temporary Union of the Tunja Terminal, the Ministry of Transport, student representations of private universities and technological institutes of the cityalong with the collaboration of the Boyacá Transit Institute (Itboy).

It was decided that a survey would be carried out that would allow us to determine routes and frequencies of students from universities and technological institutes.. We intend to carry it out in a month, during which time the preliminaries will be taken, before summoning the work table again,” said Vice-Rector Lara. With the initial data, work routes will be established to have short-term results.

For the next technical table, the transport companies will provide the databases of the people who use the service. The intention is that cross-check the information from the study and have clarity about the users who are actually students who can benefit from the project. “Based on this, the National and Departmental governments will be requested to provide resources to continue with this initiative,” concluded the Administrative and Financial Vice-Rector.

The discount that students are looking for

The request they made is for a 30% discount. However, taking into account the contributions of the department’s transportation companies, this rate will be discussed when the study is carried out. This percentage cannot be taken for granted until the costs and what it may represent for the carriers are established.
