After a demonstration held by leaders of the municipality of Piojó in the department of Atlántico, in which they demanded solutions from the Government regarding the resettlement project of 249 families who lost their homes after a mass removal event, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGDRanswered.

In the middle of his intervention in the ‘Government with the Popular Neighborhoods’ space in Barranquilla, the director of the entity, Carlos Carrillo apologized to the communitywhile announcing the reactivation of the resettlement project for the victims of the municipality.

“I want to start by offering apologies to the Piojó community. We assume political responsibility for the mistakes made by the previous administration. Today, we are here to rectify and show face to the people who lost everything”said the director of the UNGRD.

He remembered that The construction of 249 homes is contemplated, which must be ready in the shortest possible time.so they are working on new agreements that allow the execution of the works.

“We have lost the previous agreement with the Ministry of Housing, but not hope. We are working on a new agreement and we have already scheduled inter-institutional dialogues and technical tables with the mayorthe community and other members of the Government,” explained Carrillo.

Regarding the complaints about the non-payment of rent to the victims, he pointed out that it is due to the “institutional storm” that has affected the project, which is why He called on local governments to work together.

“The system needs the joint work of everyone. I have already met with the mayor of Piojó and I hope to speak with the governor soon to accelerate this process”Carrillo mentioned.
