In the context of his visit to the Arica and Parinacota region, the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow; He traveled to the commune of Camarones to verify the progress of the future Roncacho Substation, property of ENGIE Chile.

It is an electrical substation that cuts the 220 kV Nueva Pozo Almonte – Parinacota line, which is part of the National Transmission System established by Exempt Decree No. 231 of the Ministry of Energy, an initiative that was awarded by the company in a bidding process. public.

“ENGIE’s vision is to have a balanced energy mix, which includes the development of renewable energy plants, flexible energy generation – with combined cycle plants and battery storage – and the development of Transmission infrastructure. Precisely, the Roncacho Substation becomes part of the necessary infrastructure to receive and connect renewable energy production projects located in the commune of Camarones,” commented Demian Talavera, Managing Director of the GBU Networks Andes – Chile and Peru of ENGIE.

During the visit, it was possible to verify the progress of the project, which has already completed its construction stage (which began in April 2023), so the first tests for commissioning, energization and future connection to the National Electrical System have already begun.

“From the beginning with ENGIE we have found an ally… Congratulations on such an important work that we hope will enable a relevant number of investments here in the region so that we continue building a future of clean energy for the people of Arica,” commented the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow.

ENGIE is a key player in the transmission sector. It currently operates more than 2,000 kilometers of transmission lines, and more than 30 substations. It also has 4 substations under construction, expansion works on lines and substations, and also improvements in transmission infrastructure that its clients require.

“Transmission is one of the keys to the decarbonization process that the country is carrying out. For this reason, we are very grateful for the visit of the authorities to our future Roncacho Substation, given that it highlights the importance of transmission, as well as the need to strengthen the system to be able to continue advancing in the energy transition,” said Pablo Villarino. , Corporate Affairs Manager at ENGIE Chile.

It should be noted that the land where the future electrical substation is located – which is located on a site of approx. 3 hectares – is property of the Treasury and was delivered by the Ministry of National Assets to ENGIE. It is located approx. 7 km southwest of the town of Chaca and 35 km northeast of the town of Camarones.

The visit, which took place this Tuesday, was also attended by regional and local authorities, including: Seremi de Energía, Anita Flores; the Seremi of Economy, Development and Tourism, José Zúñiga; the Mayor of Camarones, Cristian Zavala; and the Regional Director of the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels, Jorge Sandoval.
