The department of Cauca continues to be, unfortunately, the epicenter of the worst news of the war in Colombia. These are dark hours that this region is experiencing due to the insistence of illegally armed groups in imposing their regime of terror.

The panorama is bloodthirsty. Drug trafficking, illegal mining and the permanent siege by FARC dissidents and other criminal groups have unleashed a fierce war in Cauca towns for control of the territory. And the dead are already beginning to be counted almost daily.

Although the Government of Gustavo Petro extended a generous hand to criminals through its ‘Total Peace’ policy, they used the cessation of military operations to strengthen and expand voraciously. It is no secret to anyone that the dissidents under the command of ‘Iván Mordisco’ used the entire year 2023 to take over entire regions and extend their crime wave to neighboring regions such as Huila.

Only until recently did President Petro come to realize the ‘rabbit’ that the dissident groups were doing to him. It was a ‘sneaky peace’, which came to show its true face with the lifting of the ceasefire decreed by the same Government.

Now, the president has ordered a major offensive against dissidents in Cauca. “The offensive against the EMC in Cauca must be total. They are murderers of the people and traffickers. If the president has to go, the president will go,” Petro said on his X account, his favorite social network.

Obviously, the dissidents, ‘fattened’ by ‘Total Peace’, are not going to sit idly by and have already begun to respond. In a few hours, they have killed 6 soldiers, in a confrontation that promises to last a long time.

The great concern now is whether the Military and Police Forces are capable of protecting not only Cauca but Huila and other regions of the country, where well-armed dissident groups are migrating.
