They recommend receiving the dose before winter

From May 2 to July 31, the influenza vaccination campaign is in effect with more than 1.8 million doses, before winter. For this phase, risk groups are being prioritized; that is, boys and girls from 6 to 23 months of age, pregnant women, health personnel, people with chronic diseases and adults over 60 years of age.

“We need this to accelerate because we are in a pre-winter vaccination campaign, it is better to prevent now and be prepared for the low temperatures that are coming,” said Enriquez.

Older adults have responded to the vaccination campaign

The authority explained that so far there is a good response from those over 60 years of age; However, the same does not happen with pregnant women or parents of children under two years of age, who, according to the regular vaccination schedule, They are given two doses of the vaccine between 6 and 11 months of age; and one dose, from 12 to 23 months of age.

The flu vaccine is applied consistently year after year, mainly in vulnerable groups. It can be applied simultaneously with other vaccines, according to age and the regular schedule (for example: anti-polio, HPV, or COVID-19). This does not mean any risk for the person who receives it, nor does it increase or make the discomfort after vaccination stronger.

There are 14 deaths from influenza in the country

Influenza, so far this year, It has claimed the lives of 14 people, 12 in Santa Cruz and two in Tarija, all of them had an underlying illness.

“This should call us to reflect, everyone had an underlying illness, whether they were minors or elderly. “That is the population that has to go faster, more promptly, to vaccination in order to protect itself,” Enriquez claimed.
