They would install a toll on the Manizales – Murillo road in the Parque de los Nevados to stop bad citizen behavior in the area

The growing influx of tourists on the Manizales – Murillo road, in the jurisdiction of the Nevados National Natural Park, has generated concern among authorities due to the bad behavior of some visitors and the possible effects on fauna and flora. The Minister of the Environment, María Susana Muhamad, proposed the installation of a toll as one of the measures to control the situation.

During her recent visit to Manizales, Minister Muhamad reported that the installation of a toll on the Manizales – Murillo road is being considered as a measure to restrict access and promote more orderly and environmentally friendly tourism. This proposal arises in response to the lack of control and disorderly tourism that has been observed in the area.

“We have spoken with the governor of Tolima and we will be calling on the governors, the Ministry of Transportation to put a toll and look for the opportunity for this road to have greater restrictions and a control plan, management and environmental education, because what “We have seen disorderly tourism without any control.”

Minister Muhamad emphasized that this measure would provide greater order and control in this area, which covers some 180,000 hectares. Additionally, she mentioned the importance of working together with tourism operators to maintain regulation and ensure that National Parks can guarantee the carrying capacity of the park.

“We want to reduce pressure from tourism, however, it is obviously a joint effort with the tour operators”

The Minister’s proposal seeks to alleviate the pressure of tourism in the Nevados National Natural Park, while promoting a sustainable and environmentally friendly development approach.
