The Ministry of Labor, through the Labor Inspection Directorate, issued notice to the Textilcom company for the closure of the plant and the dismissal of 124 workers. It was because yesterday, while the employees had a day off, they took the opportunity to try to dismantle the plant located on Echeverría Street, between Salta and Rivadavia, on the property of the former Yersiplast. The employees spent the night at the plant and promise to stay until they have a formal response, but the DIL already anticipates that they will have to wait to negotiate compensation. It had been inaugurated just 21 months ago, on August 24, 2022, with the presence of the then Secretary of Industry of the Nation, José Ignacio de Mendiguren. The owner is Carlos Villariño and they produced for Cheeky, Topper and 47 Street, among others.

During siesta hours, employees of the Textilcom factory decided to start a peaceful takeover of the plant when they discovered that the businessmen were willing to close the factory without prior notice. The employees claimed that there were around 143 colleagues, although the DIL managed the data of 124 people.

The employees had two days of “rest” between Monday and Tuesday, a situation that seemed irregular to them because the company already owed them part of their April salary based on the economic crisis. They decided to show up anyway and when they arrived at the factory they found the news that the packaging of work tools had begun, which anticipated the closure of the place. Then, the plant manager, Jorge Roldán, confirmed the news and said that there was talk of a “definitive closure” because “we have no work.”

Juan Saracho and Emilio Bustos, union delegates, in dialogue with El Ancasti, recounted what happened. “We found out through messages that there were movements, we decided to come and we realized that they were saving everything to close. We want to preserve sources of work and work for our families,” said Saracho. Bustos commented that April salaries are owed, but for three months there were already problems and the salary was being paid in three parts. “We made an agreement that was never fulfilled and now they want to close the doors. They manipulated us not to come to work today and thus they intended to take everything and leave,” he lamented.

The delegates indicated that they had no official communication. In fact, the manager’s confirmation was when consulted by the media present there.

The head of the DIL, Diego Romero, went to the plant and acknowledged that the company had already “been saying that the situation was complicated and was looking for an agreement to pay salaries.” “We are seeing what the conditions are going to be like to dismiss the workers. We are going to ensure that the compensation is settled accordingly, in addition to the salary debt for April. We want them to be paid what the law indicates and we want to bring some type of to reassure people that we are going to work for it, but we understand that it is a definitive closure, according to what the plant manager tells us,” said the official.

At night, the DIL finally signed the minutes with which it ordered the company to clarify the situation of the workers, since no dismissal or closure of the plant was formally notified, beyond what was obvious. In addition, it made its counseling tools available to workers. n
