Conferences addressed different subjects of institutional interest.

The updating and voting of regulations, the presentation of results of the 2023 admission process, the progress of the institutional PDE and the definition of the anniversary awards, among other topics of interest, were addressed by the Superior Council of the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN ) in the ordinary (4/2024) and extraordinary (3/2024) sessions held on May 7 and 14, respectively.

Both meetings considered the opening prayer by the Vice Grand Chancellor of the UCN, RP, André Hubert sj, who highlighted on the first day that at Easter time “the Lord helps us to have hope.” Likewise, in the second session he referred to “that God chooses us to work and give meaning to this world,” with emphasis on responsibility.

ORDINARY SESSION

The first point of the ordinary session on May 7 included the vote on the update of the Summary Regulations, which was unanimously approved by the Superior Council, after the presentation made by the Academic Vice-Rector, Nelson Fernández Vergara and the Secretary General. from the UCN, Fernando Orellana Torres.

Meanwhile, the second point of the table considered the presentation of the results of Admission 2023, which considered different information, figures, activities and analysis of the national and institutional process. The presentation was given by the Academic Vice-Rector, Nelson Fernández Vergara, and by the Head of the Admission and Enrollment Department, Dennis Palacios Bugueño.

In its third point, the session addressed compliance with the Strategic Development Plan (PDE) 2023. On the occasion, the Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Quality, Cristian Morales Letzkus, reported on the results of the year 2023, PDE 2024 gaps, comparison with Universities of seven years of accreditation and provided figures on the percentage of achievement of goals.

The fourth point dealt with the discernment of the anniversary awards with the respective selected people and institutions. The presentation was given by the Academic Vice-Rector, Nelson Fernández Vergara, the Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs, Ingrid Álvarez Arzic, the Director of Research and Analysis of Scientific Production, Carlos Calderón Carvajal, and the General Director of Liaison with the Environment, Olga María Valdés.

EXTRAORDINARY SESSION

In the extraordinary session on Tuesday, May 14, the first point considered the discernment of the Coquimbo Collaborating Company/Institution Award, which had been pending from the previous session. The presentation was given by the General Director of Liaison with the Environment, Olga María Valdés.

The second topic of the table considered the presentation of the update of the Student Mobility Regulations, which was led by the Director of International Relations, Karol Trautmann Thomas, whose objective is to regulate and guide undergraduate and graduate student mobility at the institutional level. containing the requirements, duties and rights of UCN students who carry out mobility, as well as external students (national or foreign) who carry out mobility at the UCN, among other considerations.

On the occasion, the important dates of the process were established, such as the presentation to the Superior Council and download to the academic units (May 14), considering June 19 as the last deadline for sending suggestions, queries and contributions by academic units to the reception email [email protected]. From June 20 to 26, the review, adjustments and updating of the regulations will take place. Meanwhile, on July 2 it will be presented to the Superior Council for approval.

The third point considered the presentation of the Regulations for the Delivery of Scholarships for Student Mobility, which seeks to create a new regulation at the UCN and regulate the allocation of this benefit. The presentation was led by the Director of International Relations, Karol Trautmann Thomas. The presentation to the Superior Council (May 14) and downloading to the academic units were considered important dates of the process. June 19 is the last deadline for sending suggestions, queries and contributions by academic units to the reception email, [email protected]. The fourth point of the session was focused on the vote to determine the members of the Academic Career Commission. On the occasion, the 23 names received were reported. Likewise, each of the councilors voted for three names, and the following academics were elected to be part of the commission: Ibar Astudillo. Muriel Ramirez. Elizabeth Lam, Kamel Cazor, Martha Hengst, Federico Winkler, Gianni Romani, Paulina Salinas and Walter Terrazas.
