The announcement of a million-dollar investment in the Santiago Vila airport, located in Flanders, constitutes an opportunity from which Ibagué can boost its internationalization and competitiveness, said the Mayor’s Office of Ibagué.

“Ibagué joins this initiative because we have some logistics centers and we also want to venture into the ‘Tolima investment center’ initiative, because we want Ibagué to be competitive in the world,” said Naydú Romero, Secretary of Economic Development.

The investments for $49,000 million that were discussed between representatives of Civil Aeronautics, the public sector and the economic unions of Tolima, will be used to improve the runway, taxiways, apron, among other places at the Air Terminal.

“That we can train people in aircraft maintenance; bilingualism, establish hotels. And since we are only one hour from Flanders, we can make Ibagué a logistics center to carry out maintenance on tractors and transportation,” said the official.

It should be noted that it is expected to consolidate the Santiago Vila airport as an air cargo terminal. Likewise, it is expected that aircraft maintenance can be carried out at its facilities.
