The Pro-Security Cabinet met in Valdivia, during which a balance regarding the Streets Without Violence Plan and the idea of ​​incorporating an OS9 unit of Carabineros in the Los Ríos region was raised.

The Undersecretary of Crime Prevention, Eduardo Vergara, arrived in the regional capital of Los Ríos to lead the meeting that brought together other authorities, such as the presidential delegate Jorge Alvial, the Seremi of Justice and other entities, such as the Carabineros and the Investigative Police. On the occasion, the figures regarding the commission of crimes were analyzed, such as reduction in the homicide rate, going from an index of 7.6 in 2022 to 4.4 in 2023 in the Los Ríos region.

In addition, Undersecretary Vergara stated that the seizure of firearms increased by 25%, recovering a total of 748 in the area.

While within the framework of the Streets Without Violence Plan, which began to be implemented in the middle of last year and – in the region – only in Valdivia, the authority detailed that More than a thousand identity checks have been carried out, nearly 4 thousand vehicle checks, 20 weapons seized and at least 218 detainees..

Likewise, Vergara specified that In the execution of this initiative a total of 26 criminal organizations have been dismantled.

In the session of the Pro Security Cabinet, the possibility of implementing Carabineros OS9 in the region was also addressed. For this reason, the undersecretary recognized that it is a desire, which is why he stated that it is an “incipient” idea.

Finally, at the meeting some gaps were defined, such as the need to increase police presence throughout the entire regional territory.

In addition, some challenges were established, such as increasing inspections by 25%, keeping the homicide rate low in the region and recovering the spaces occupied for the commission of crimes.
