The day of protest in defense of national universities was expressed this Wednesday in Rosario from 5 p.m. with a broad call in which the higher educational community marched with torches and candles against the budget cut and demanding salary increases for teachers and non-teachers.

The Rosario march started from Pellegrini Avenue in front of the Faculty of Exact Sciences, passing by the Government headquarters of the National University of Rosario (UNR), on Maipú and San Luis streets. Then he headed towards Plaza 25 de Mayo. Among the long and noisy columns, representatives of political and social organizations joined with flags.neighborhood assemblies, as well as the teachers’ unions Coad and Amsafe, and state employees, such as ATE and UPCN.

Shortly before starting the march, he spoke with the cell phone Middle point (Radio 2), the president of the Student Center of the Faculty of Medicine, Tomás Craus, who recalled that “today non-teachers are on strike, and therefore the faculties are closed. And tomorrow the strike of teachers and non-teachers will take place.”

He highlighted that last April “the massive federal mobilization managed to get the government to open its hand and give us a 270 percent increase. But this guarantees operating expenses so that the faculties do not close for no more than three months. And that is why now the claim is for salarieswhich are not included in that amount of the university budget.”

The representative of the medical students specified that “a budget item of a similar amount to that announced was requested, since this is only enough for the maintenance of the cloisters, and the increase in salaries remains undiscussed.”

But in addition to the operation and salaries, Craus detailed: “More budget is required for research scholarships for chairs, connectivity scholarships, and teaching and non-teaching salaries.”
