The humanitarian organization World Vision, an expert in the protection and well-being of children and adolescents, held a space in the community of El Arroyo de Riohacha called “Savings since my childhood”, a recreational and learning workshop as a first approach to savings to the children and adolescents of the community.

25 Wayú girls and boys learned the importance of how and why to save money, and they were also provided with practical tools that they could apply in their daily lives. They demonstrated a greater understanding of basic financial concepts, the difference between needs and wants, and how to set achievable financial goals.

Life in El Arroyo is marked by traditions and customs that have been transmitted from generation to generation. Family and community play a central role in daily life and social relationships are fundamental to the survival and well-being of all.

Wayú girls and boys in the community are a mixture of tradition and adaptation, where the connection with the land and culture is a fundamental part of their development and growth. From an early age he learns about the values ​​and traditions of his people, guided by his parents, grandparents and other members of the extended family. As they grow, girls and boys assume responsibilities in the home and community, however, and despite these commitments, they also find time to play and have fun, participating in traditional games such as “Yonna” (a version of hopscotch) or “Tsuulü” (a game with small stones).

Promoting savings among indigenous children in the El Arroyo community is a valuable strategy that involves play and responsibility, while promoting financial stability and long-term economic development.
