Chile will begin the procedures to host the Olympic Games in 2036 despite its relative success in the Pan American Games, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, announced this Saturday.

At the annual event to take stock and outline future policies, Gabriel Boric revealed that he has asked the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, to start “the formal procedures to apply for Chile to host the 2036 Olympic Games.”

Boric said that his country has the organizational conditions, “the cmanagement skills and international leadership to organize world-class sporting events.

“To this end, the Minister of Sports has already formalized before the Chilean Olympic Committee our willingness to start the application process for our headquarters with a view to 2036,” he added.

In this sense, Boric recalled that in 2023 “Chile lived a moment of exceptional joy and national pride with the Santiago 2023 Games“.

The president, however, put aside the criticism of numerous delegations about the precariousness of some of the headquarters of the aforementioned Pan American Games.

These were not completely finished, and FIFA’s decision to leave Chile out of the organization of the start of the 2030 World Cup.

Before the Panamerican Games of Santiago 2023, Chile had only organized the 1962 World Cupin which Pelé’s Brazil was the winner.
