A political scientist highlights the importance of Chile joining South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the ICJ, highlighting the crucial role of its large Palestinian community.
In an interview given on Saturday to HispanTV, international analyst Mikhatel Marzuqa underlined the relevance of the decision of the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, to support South Africa’s claim before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel.
“What the president is doing is very important (…) given not only that there is an important community of Palestinians in Chile (…) it is not only the magnitude of the community that is interesting, but the exchange that is constantly carried out with his relatives . In other words, there are very important links and current generations that still know each other and then there is a very frequent and very deep exchange between both communities,” he highlighted.
Furthermore, he has stated that Boric’s statement could be influenced by an imminent resolution favorable to Palestine by the International Court of Justice.
