University of La Rioja emphasizes commitment to peace and rejects all types of violence

Logroño, June 3 (EFE).- The vice-rector of Students and University Extension of the University of La Rioja (UR), Marian Martínez Calvo, has explained, in relation to the request of the students camped on the Rioja campus in support of the people Palestinian to hold a meeting with the rector, that the university’s management team “has no power” over this issue. For this reason, it has referred to the statement published last Thursday, May 30, by the Governing Council of the UR, which promised not to maintain collaboration with universities and research centers that explicitly support war actions and that do not manifest a firm commitment to peace and compliance with international humanitarian law. In this sense, the UR stressed its commitment to peace, coexistence, respect for human rights and the total rejection of all types of terrorism and violence are based on the search for equality, pluralism, respect for ideas and the critical spirit.
