The Minister of DefenseLuis Petri, assured that the provinces “they must unify criteria” in terms of Security and classified the coordination between the different ministries as very important. Furthermore, he confirmed that the Executive will introduce a bill into the Congress with which it will seek to modify the Internal Security law to expand the powers of the Army within the country.

“Currently, the Armed Forces can intervene in internal security only in two cases: one is for support and collaboration tasks in logistics, transportation, veterinary and others, and the other is the one dictated by article 31 established by the Law of Internal Security, which indicates that action can be taken when security forces are overwhelmed”, indicated the Mendoza official. And he added: “An intermediate option must be established that allows the use of the Armed Forces when, for example, there are terrorist acts”.

Petri participated in the II Meeting of the Internal Security Council, which took place in Mendoza, with the presence of the main representatives of the 24 jurisdictions of the country. In this context, the minister also showed in favor of the possibility of lowering the age of imputability to 13 years. He admitted that although it is not the final solution to the problem, it is an answer for the victims of insecurity events.

Regarding the event that takes place in the province, he highlighted that “it is very important” for coordination and articulation tasks. “Complex crime requires responses from the different levels of the State and this area of ​​discussion is essential to unify criteria”commented Petri.
