Carlos Pouso opts for SD Logroñés

On May 20, Diario LA RIOJA reported that Carlos Pouso had ‘a foot and a half’ on the bench of Sociedad Deportiva Logroñés. Yesterday, June 3, the entity confirmed it and this morning it will be presented at a press conference, together with the manager of the entity and friend of the coach, Javier González.

Carlos Pouso will sit on his bench this season and will be accompanied by José Ángel Vázquez Oliveira, second, and Adrián Cantabrana, physical trainer. Technical team that still needs to be polished with a goalkeeper coach, among others.

The Basque coach returns to the capital of Rioja after spending the last two campaigns, a season and a half, at Calahorra, where he was unable to avoid relegation and where he worked in the Second Federation in the recently completed campaign. And he comes to the Society to promote, as first, the team. That is the ambition of Javier González, head of the entity. «In the Second Federation we will be a team to beat. “Next year we are going to go up directly, or try to, no ‘play off’,” González stated at a press conference once the team’s relegation was known.

Experience and knowledge

If the new SD Logroñés coach can boast of anything, it is that he knows the category, just like the First Federation. He has been on the benches of Sestao River, Mirandés, Eibar, Guijuelo or UD Logroñés. José Ángel Vázquez and Adrián Cantabrana follow in his footsteps after having met at Calahorra.

A lot of work ahead for the Basque coach, with a lot of experience on the bench. Enough to face a complicated season in Sociedad, which after a bad year – ended with a slow-cooked relegation – he faces a season with many expectations.

Carlos Pouso has ahead of him the task of recovering enthusiasm in a fan base that has just experienced a decline. Furthermore, the club, as the manager announced in the press conference he offered, needs to “become professional.” The Basque coach will also contribute his knowledge in this aspect.

He enters a season full of expectations. They will share a group with at least three more Rioja teams: UD Logroñés, Calahorra and Alfaro. Oyonesa or Anguiano could join this list.
