Frontal system: warn of high probability of mass removals

After the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) issued an alert this Sunday for a warm frontal system, which will affect various areas between the regions of Maule and Los Ríos, lThis Monday afternoon, a new technical table was formed with the institutions that make up the National Disaster Prevention and Response System (Senapred).

This is an event of moderate to heavy precipitation with a high zero isotherm, which They will begin on the morning of Wednesday, June 5, and are expected to last until the night of Thursday, June 6.

In this regard, the deputy director of emergency management of Senapred, Michael Ortizexplained that this phenomenon will imply that precipitation will be recorded in those sectors where snow generally falls, which could cause runoff and mass removals.

In this sense, he indicated that in the section between the regions of Maule and Biobío, the conditions of mass removal are high, while between the regions of La Araucanía and Los Ríos, the probability is very high. mainly the mountain and foothill sectors.

“Due to this forecast, we mainly ask people not to expose themselves unnecessarily to risk situations, avoid approaching mountain and foothill areas, “Inform yourself through official channels, and be attentive to the recommendations of the authorities to establish an eventual evacuation if the situation and weather conditions require it,” Ortiz said.

It should be noted that mass removals are those geological processes in which material comes down from the slopes of hills or moves along riverbeds, due to the action of gravity.
