Córdoba: Community mothers block the Lorica highway

The Lorica-San Antero road, which is a communication artery between the departments of Sucre and Córdoba, has been blocked since the early hours of this morning on Tuesday, June 4, by community mothers from the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF).

At kilometer 49, the women stood up to demand the payment of four months of wages, in addition to job stability. Traffic regulators and Highway Police officers arrived at the site to prevent excesses.

Spokeswomen indicate that around 180 community mothers are affected.

Digna Naranjo, community mother of the ICBF, assured that “their payments, their salaries, are sacred because from 4:00 in the morning they are on their feet to care for 10 children. In addition to not paying us, they don’t keep us accountable and they send us a very small ration and that’s why we have to provide food from our salaries to nourish the children well. They do not pay us salaries or benefits. Welfare wants to give us up for the month of April and we are going to go to the last consequences.”
