Twenty-seven neighbors joined the municipal initiative to alleviate the bad moment that the fishing sector is experiencing in the commune.

This week work began on the employment program for residents of Repollal that the municipality of Guaitecas created with resources from the mining royalty.

27 residents have joined the municipal initiative, who for three months will carry out a series of tasks in their own sector, with part-time contracts.

When the work began, the mayor of Guaitecas Marcos Silva went to Repollal to greet the people who have joined this employment program, which was created given the complications that many families in the commune have had as a result of the economic crisis due to the that crosses the artisanal fishing sector.

Regarding the work that the neighbors are carrying out, Mayor Silva explained that they will focus on the road and on improving public spaces and infrastructure in Repollal.

“There are several tasks that will be carried out, such as cleaning, water channeling, friction on the road and thus improving the vision of those who travel in vehicles between Melinka and Repollal; improvements and changes to gabion meshes and other works,” said the communal authority.

Marcos Silva said that there are many people in the commune who are looking for a source of income generation, given the complex scenario that the main productive sector of the commune is going through, which is artisanal fishing.

“This year has been complex for artisanal fishing, so there are a greater number of people requiring these labor absorption jobs,” he indicated.

“We are going to allocate more than 30 million pesos for this and we are going to provide work for three months for half a day, thinking that the people of Repollal have time to do paperwork and other things, which is what we always say, but the important thing is is that this program is implemented,” he said
