With their faces covered and in an aggressive manner, a group of unknown men have taken control of the blockades, which since last Tuesday have been maintained by more than 400 farmers in the Troncal de Caribe, near the township of La Floresta, municipality from Pailitas, Cesar.

The complaint was made by residents of the township, who for security reasons prefer to omit their name, since they have been verbally attacked by these men who claim that the area is under their control until the national government responds on the allocation of land corresponding to the Reform Agrarian.

“They are hooded and aggressive, that is why we believe that they are the farmers, but rather infiltrators who are taking advantage of the situation to generate among the people who ask to allow the passage. Likewise, food transporters and intermunicipal buses are afraid of the presence of these people who could commit criminal acts and generate chaos in the area,” said one of the inhabitants of the La Floresta district.

As you will remember, peasants from the south of Bolívar and Norte de Santander participate in the protest, who ask the Government to hand over land and replace coca crops.

Regarding this situation, Alexander Toro, mayor of the municipality of Pailitas, reiterated that since last Tuesday the Unified Command Post was installed to monitor the protest and prevent unfortunate situations. 120 police officers, Army officials and Transit police officers are also stationed as part of the security actions that have been undertaken due to these blockades.

“We cannot be sure if they are farmers or not because we know the farmers in our area,

“When we went to the protest point there were young people, men, women and an indigenous guard. We do not know if they are farmers or infiltrators, since they belong to other municipalities and we do not know them,” said the president.

He added that the approach with the national government is being managed by the secretary of the departmental government, Eduardo Esquivel, through the vice minister of dialogue, and in the next few hours a consultation table would be held with the leaders of the protest, since the The same situation is occurring in Boyacá and Bogotá.

“It is a complex situation, the inhabitants of the La Floresta township gathered courage and went to speak with the leaders of the protest to establish rules of coexistence because certain freedoms are being restricted to them. We are carrying out the administrative actions that correspond to us, but sometimes there are situations that get out of hand,” he assured.

At the time of going to press, the protest continued and attempts at dialogue with the blockade leaders did not prosper. Meanwhile, long queues of vehicles and road chaos remained in the area.
