A total of 834 agents will ensure the normal development of the European election day in La Rioja next Sunday, June 9. Members of the National Police, the Civil Guard and Local Police will form this device to guarantee citizen security and the exercise of rights and freedoms during voting day.

This morning the Extraordinary Security Board was held, chaired by the Government delegate in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, to coordinate this security device that will be established on the occasion of the European Elections.

Specifically, the National Police will deploy a total of 160 agents, while in the Civil Guard there will be 630 troops. In addition, 44 local police officers will also be part of the device.

The State Security Forces and Bodies will work to guarantee that the 414 polling stations enabled in La Rioja can open on time and election day runs normally. Regarding the personnel involved in the entire electoral process management device, the total number rises to 5,894 people, of which around 40% are substitute table members who will not have to intervene in practice.

The delegate thanked the agents of the National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police for the important work carried out every day of the year and, more specifically, on such important days as the holding of elections.

For the management of the electoral process in the autonomous community of La Rioja, the Government Delegation has an initial budget of 644,212.51 euros, the main items being those allocated to members of polling stations (109,490 euros) and printing of ballots. and minutes (147,000 euros)

Voters in La Rioja

Regarding voter data in La Rioja, 250,008 people will be able to vote. This total electoral census is specified in:

  • Resident Electoral Census (CER): 234,645.
  • Census of Foreigners Resident in Spain (CERE): 1,965.
  • Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA): 18,398.

Regarding new voters upon turning 18:

  • 14,413 since the 2019 European Parliament Elections.
  • 2,559 since the General Elections of July 23, 2023.

On the other hand, 3 blind voters have requested a special KIT to vote in baille and no deaf voter has requested a sign interpreter to be a member of the polling station.

Regarding the possibility of voting by mail, it has been requested by a total of 15,567 Rioja men and women included in the CER, of which 15,542 have been accepted and 25 have been denied. In the last General Elections on July 23, 2023 there were 20,843. In addition, 12 temporarily absent Rioja residents have also requested it and it has been sent ex officio to 18,398 Rioja men and women from CERA. Therefore, the total amounts to 33,952 voters who have been sent electoral documentation, a figure much higher than the 2019 European Elections in which there were 10,060. This increase is as a consequence of the change in the CERA voting process, since, as of October 4, 2022, it is no longer necessary to request the vote as a prior step for its exercise after the entry into force of the reform of the regulation of the exercise. of the vote by Spaniards living abroad.
