The Santander Jorge Luis Pinto will assume the technical direction of the Magdalena Union, team that participates in the Colombian soccer Promotion Tournament.

Pinto’s hiring was confirmed by the president of the Samario team Alberto Mario Garzón.

“The main reason for Professor Pinto’s arrival at Unión is because we want to promote,” Garzón stated.

Pinto, 71 years old, will complete his third cycle at the head of Unión Magdalena, a club he already directed between 1988 and 1989 and between 1994 and 1996. He replaces Alvaro Hernandez, who could not qualify the team to the final of the first semester.

In ’89 he was close to qualifying for the final home run, but that possibility was thwarted by the murder of the referee Alvaro Ortega, fact that led to the cancellation of that year’s championship.

Pinto has not coached since mid-2023 when he left the technical direction of Deportivo Cali due to disagreements with the board of directors.

The man from Santander led the team Costa Rica with which he reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup Brazil 2014. He was also a technician for the Colombia selection in the World Cup Qualifiers South Africa 2010.
