Peasant families from the Miraflores village, in the rural area of the municipality of Argelia, in the southwest of Cauca, remain confined in the midst of the fighting that takes place between armed groups outside the law.
“This situation occurred during the afternoon of this Wednesday, June 5, at times you can hear machine gun fire, then explosions, which is why we chose not to leave our homes,” the residents denounced.
This atmosphere of war has already completed four days, after a faction of the Carlos Patiño front, of the FARC dissidents, arrived in the area of Las Perlas and Miraflores, an illegal group that seeks to expel the Second Marquetalia and the Army, the other two actors who are in this territory.
As a result of this military plan, families displaced from the rural area to the urban area are increasing, as warned by entities such as the Ombudsman’s Office, the Government of Cauca and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“The residents and their loved ones gradually arrive at the town, where they are then placed in the coliseum, where they already receive aid such as food, clothing and personal hygiene items,” indicated the Ombudsman in Cauca, Daniel Molano.
While this serious situation occurs, members of the National Army carry out area control operations in the area in order to regain control of sectors of Las Perlas, to prevent FARC dissidents from reaching the urban area.
“That group from Carlos Patiño entered the area of Algeria through a road that comes from La Mesa, El Patía, they said that they were going to take the town of El Sinaí first and then the other towns, that is why the fighting increased. , hence we are left in the middle of this situation,” explained social leader Carlos Pérez.
Also, and seeking to assist the residents affected by this war, a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Cicr, also delivered humanitarian aid to the people who spend the night in the coliseum.
