The Regional Council of Los Lagos approved co-financing to provide Puerto Varas with 16 electric busesfor which it will contribute 7,144 million pesos while the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications will complete the 15,564 million needed for the project.

For his part, Mayor Gárate stated that “we are very excited as a municipality and as a commune, since We suffer every day with population growth, tacos, traffic congestion and this also intersects with the lack of public transportation. For this we make decisions as a municipality. “We decided to aim for different, innovative strategies.”
“No one believed us, we had no support, but we began to work side by side with the Regional Government, the governor, the Minister of Transportation, in order to be approving today a project of 16 electric buses with subsidized rates, which It also benefits seniors and students with differentiated rates. and that, within eight years, it will be able to carry out two tours throughout the city,” added the communal chief.
The Seremi of Transport and Telecommunications of Los Lagos, Pablo Joostexplained that “this project considers the construction of a loading center on municipal land and that, of course, it is for the direct benefit of the people who live in the city of Puerto Varas and that is also in line with what we as ministry we are promoting in the country, which is advance sustainable public transportation systems at the national level“.
The project aims at a fleet that will circulate through the urban area of the commune, passing through the main sectors that demand public transportation, such as commerce, health services and other points of interest in the city. The routes will connect the Alto Esperanza sector with Mirador, crossing the center and residential areas, with operation from 06:00 to 23:00 on weekdays.
