Cubans on social networks expressed their indignation at the mistreatment to which a horse was subjected in Villa Clara, and which resulted in the death of the animal.

The activist Yenney Caballeroa staunch defender of animals in cubadenounced the incident on Facebook and called for urgent action by the government to punish those responsible and modify the Animal Welfare Decree in favor of harsher penalties.

The young woman posted a video that shows the horse extremely skinny, no longer able to get up, after being abandoned by its owners under the sun, and being aided by activists of the independent organization Bienestar Animal Cuba (BAC) in Placetas.

In that group, which filmed the video, an activist confirmed that the animal died shortly after.

“ENOUGH OF ANIMAL MISTREATMENT! What they experience every day is criminal. They cannot defend themselves, they do not get to a veterinarian alone. I am going to stand with all the animal rights activists where necessary. Modify the animal welfare decree, get involved hard to these horrors. We are exhausted from seeing so much. Our houses full of animals, our hearts are broken. Cases like this cannot go unpunished. Please share. Cuba. No more abuse, no more cruelty,” Caballero posted on Facebook.

Dozens of people immediately commented on the publication and demanded an urgent modification of the animal welfare decree and more severe sanctions for those responsible for these acts of cruelty.

“How sad to see that photo. Horses are victims of their owners who only see it as a way of enrichment. Here in this country the government does not care about any animal. When will we see a law that protects them and harshly punishes offenders?” commented one Internet user.

“It’s sad and painful how animals suffer in Cuba. Animal cruelty doesn’t stop. It’s already too much. Why doesn’t the government imprison the people who commit these acts over and over again?” said another.

“It is incredible that there are such denatured people, how much he could have served his owner and now they throw him to die in the sun, he is too strong, poor little animal,” said a third user of the network.

Gentleman, who has uncovered several serious cases of animal abuse in Cubalike the sale of dog meat in Mayabeque, has been denouncing for months that horses are frequently mistreated by their owners under the complicit gaze of the authorities.

In 2022, the animal activist reported that a horse was being beaten in the middle of the street in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, and her complaint forced the authorities to pick up the animal and put it in good shelter.

Likewise, last year the Cuban animal activist Betty Batista faced the abusive pony ownertook the animal from him and sheltered it inside his own house in Havana until the authorities arrived.

The woman, who is a rescuer, published a video on her Facebook page where she was seen facing the owners of the animal when they went to claim it and told them that she would only hand it over if someone left her an official document so that they could be located by police.
