The San Pedro University Hospital has obtained accreditation from the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 15189:2023 standard for the activities carried out in the Clinical Analysis Service, both in its central laboratory and in the microbiology laboratory. .
The Minister of Health, María Martín, made a visit to the hospital facilities this Thursday in which she congratulated the health professionals who carry out their work in this service and shared her satisfaction with the recognition of the quality of the activities carried out in the Laboratory of the hospital.
According to Health, the new accreditation means “a turning point in the operation of clinical laboratories and in their recognition as a fundamental pillar for issuing a medical diagnosis based on their data.”
Specifically, the scope of the Central Laboratory’s accreditation covers determinations made in both serum and urine in the area of biochemistry, serum determinations in the areas of hormones, vitamins and tumor markers and the determination of occult blood in feces, key in early detection of colorectal cancer. For its part, accreditation in the microbiology laboratory covers the areas of mycobacteria and molecular biology, including the culture, identification and antibiotic sensitivity of mycobacteria and the identification of the main pathogens that cause meningitis.
