Washington, June 6 (EFECOM).- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) refused this Thursday to confirm whether it is in dialogue with Argentina about a new debt refinancing program, after that country’s Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, assured that yes there are conversations going on.

In a press conference in Washington, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack indicated that the organization is currently focused on the agreement it signed in 2022 with Argentina to refinance the debt contracted in 2018 and on the disbursements of that program.

“I am not going to speculate on a new program or new financing at this stage, but I can say that we will continue to discuss with the authorities the modalities on how to support Argentina in the future,” the spokesperson simply said.

At the end of April, Caputo stated that the Government of Javier Milei had entered into a dialogue with the IMF with a view to a new program with that organization.

In March 2022, the then Government of Peronist Alberto Fernández (2019-2023) signed an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to refinance loans for about 45,000 million dollars that the organization had granted to Argentina in 2018, during the Government. of the conservative Mauricio Macri (2015-2019).

The agreement includes quarterly reviews on the level of compliance with demanding goals in terms of fiscal discipline, accumulation of monetary reserves and limits on monetary issuance. EFECOM
