For Carrascal, the rapporteur of the labor reform in the House, “The Government has several ways to carry out its purposes in labor matters and collective rights. Congress is one of those ways and here we go.”
The representative assured that the discussion of the labor reform has been in Congress for more than a year and highlighted that the first debate has already passed. Precisely, he announced that they will continue the process from the next legislature.
Given the criticism that the reform received, Carrascal defended the National Government’s project, ensuring that its position is to discuss issues of utmost importance for the country.
“Although they were eliminated, their importance is understood because it is on the path of the ILO and the OECD; international recommendations are being followed.”
For its part, Representative Salcedofrom the U Party, said that the Government’s strategy of wanting to revive the sunken articles of the reform via decree It is a lack of respect for Congress.
“It seems to me that that is not serious. If the Government wants to make the reforms via decree, let it do them. Today with the labor reform there is an agreement between the parties to eliminate these articles. If they want to negotiate those agreements, take out the entire reform via decreebut it is a lack of respect for the legislature,” he indicated.
“Don’t tell us that in Colombia there is anti-unionism because we will end up approving a labor reform that will fire many workers,” he said.
Thus, Salcedo expressed that what the Government wants is “put a rabbit in the agreement of the benches” to not approve the reform.
“This labor reform will not formalize 23 million workers, it seeks to give large unions greater possibilities, surely to form a political party tomorrow,” he explained.
