Cundinamarca: VÍA SUMAPAZ delivers to the ANI a new section of the third lane of the Bogotá-Girardot highway

The concessionaire Vía Sumapaz has officially completed and delivered to the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) a modernized segment of the Bogotá-Girardot highway, covering 14 kilometers and expanding 6 kilometers to third lane, focusing on the municipality of Fusagasugá.

VÍA SUMAPAZ advances in third rail works

This section, part of Functional Unit 4, represents an improvement in the road infrastructure between Bogotá and Girardot.

The works have not only modernized the existing road but have expanded the road’s capacity with the incorporation of a third lane, designed to optimize travel times and reduce congestion in the center of Fusagasugá. In detail, the improvements included:

– Pavement rehabilitation and embankment stabilization.

– Construction of two roundabouts and a pedestrian bridge.

– Implementation of a service area with various facilities.

The new service area, located on the Fusagasugá bypass, offers a comprehensive range of services for users, such as a restaurant, infirmary, bathrooms, public telephones and a basic mechanics workshop, thus improving the experience and comfort of travelers.

The modernization of this section has been possible thanks to the collaboration of more than a thousand workers and the synergy with VINCI Construction.

A notable aspect of the project has been its environmental focus, managing to recycle and reuse 40% of the asphalt from the previous pavement, which underlines Vía Sumapaz’s commitment to sustainability.

Since the completion of the works and its opening to traffic in October 2023, the ANI has carried out a meticulous inspection process, making their reception official on April 29.

Laurent Cavrois, General Manager of Vía Sumapaz and Executive Director of VINCI Highways in Latin America, highlighted the importance of this milestone in the construction of the road corridor, which has already reached a general progress of 50%.

Cavrois stated: “The receipt of Functional Unit 4 by the ANI is an important and positive step, as we approach the halfway point of construction on the Bogotá-Girardot road corridor. We are fully mobilized to achieve our goal of delivering a modern road in 2026, in line with the schedule agreed with the ANI”.
