The driver’s irresponsibility endangered 22 students in an accident on the Albania-Maicao road

The Wayuu students, who were injured, were admitted to the San José de Maicao hospital.

Three cars from the same company were part of the visual scenario, but only two were involved in the driver’s inexperience of the last car, who did not stop in time and hit the one that was parked from behind.

That was the scene experienced at noon on Wednesday, June 5 of this year, which endangered 22 student children, members of the Wayuu ethnic group who traveled in the vehicles of the Aleewaa company that provides transportation service in the 12 non-certified municipalities of La Guajira.

Fortunately only four students received medical attentionwhich were transferred to San José de Maicao hospital to receive timely care from health professionals; but two of these little ones were injured; one of them, with fractures in arm and shoulderas indicated by the Aleewaa company through a press release.

“This company that provides ethnic rural school transportation services reports that two of our vehicles were involved in a collision, in which four minors were injured.

“We continue to provide the school transportation service normally, we will continue to implement the vehicle inspection plan and training of our staff, both drivers and accompanying adults, to ensure the well-being and safety of our minors,” says the statement dated this 6th of this year.

The three vehicles were traveling on the road that connects the municipality of Albania with the similar municipality of Maicao and had to make an obligatory stop. The first one arrived, the second one too, and the third one apparently had a distraction.which did not have enough time and space to stop and ended up hitting the first of the parked cars from behind, since the second had decided to continue its journey.

This accident happened in milliseconds or in the blink of an eye; presenting the impact that resulted in injuring the four students and the fear took over the rest, presenting a crying emergency and desperation for each little one to quickly reach their community.

The company Aleewaa is managed by Enrique Freyle Melo and was born from a consortium formed between two Guajira companies: Relaturg Transport owned by the heirs of the political leader and businessman Edgar Acosta Romerodeceased and Express Caribe Radiantefrom the relatives of the former mayor of Riohacha, Rafael Ricardo Ceballos Sierra.
