This Sunday the 2024 Primary Elections will be held in the country. During the civic event, Chileans will attend the polling places to elect the candidates for governors and mayors for the next municipal elections.

Alcohol ban

As always happens when elections are held, the authorities will decree dry law on Sunday. The rule prohibits selling alcohol for much of the day.

Law 18,700 establishes the measure. specifying that “Between five hours in the morning and two hours after the close of voting, commercial establishments will not be able to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises or outside it, “excepting only hotels with respect to passengers who spend the night in them.”

On Sunday, the polling stations will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The closure of these, however, will depend on the presence or not of people waiting to vote.

The Primary Elections 2024, At the regional level, they will only be held in Coquimbo and Aysén to choose gubernatorial candidates. Of the 342 communes in the country, voting will only be held in 60 municipalities. Prohibition, therefore, will apply only in the territories where the votes are held.
