Health authorities took stock of the Winter Campaign in Maule

– In the premises of the Regional Hospital of Talca, the Seremi de Salud Gloria Icaza, together with representatives of the facility and the Health Service, announced the status of the network and progress of vaccination against influenza.
As a way to continue promoting the Winter Campaign, in addition to calling for vaccination and prevention of respiratory diseases, the health authority took stock of the main indicators in this matter.
On the occasion, the Minister of Health Gloria Icaza explained that “the situation in the Maule Region is similar to the rest of the country. We are experiencing a peak of cases with type A influenza that seems to be subsiding, but we still have a lot of winter ahead of us, so the Winter Campaign is in its weeks of high circulation of respiratory viruses, so the concern is for people. Of course, to say that the virus that circulates the most is influenza type A and for this we have vaccination. So the important thing is to highlight the importance of vaccination. We still have time, the vaccination levels in our region are high, we are at 80.7%, in addition, there are already several communes, including Curicó and Talca, that have reached the goal of 85% in the target population.” .
In turn, Alberto Miño, deputy director of Care Management of the Maule Health Service, indicated that “the care network is providing coverage for the population’s care. Among the different strategies that we are demanding from the network is the complexity of beds, which is a measure to increase the provision of possible needs of the population in the face of complications of these conditions that are stationary. This has been reflected, we have had a good response from the point of view of highly complex hospitals in that sense.”
For his part, Pablo Gacitúa, director of the Talca Hospital, pointed out that “fortunately, we have improved our emergency care process, which has allowed us to focus on patients who are arriving with more severe symptoms, mainly the adult population. But, just as we said last week, we cannot neglect the pediatric population and we are also seeing that more patients are coming to consult the emergency room due to respiratory viruses in the pediatric population. “This has motivated the hospital to make beds more complex and increase its supply of critical beds to deal with more acute conditions.”
It should be noted that 72 ICU beds, 121 ICU beds, 547 intermediate beds, and 457 basic beds are available in the region, all available and operational throughout the network.
Regarding the balance of respiratory diseases, currently the circulation of influenza A predominates, and for this there is vaccination, where Maule reaches 80.7% coverage, highlighting that some communes reached the goal of 85%, such as Talca, Curicó , Pelarco and Retiro. The call is to people aged 60 and over, where 25% of the target audience is missing to be vaccinated.
