Carreño: “I will fight to achieve a medal in the Olympic Games”

Pablo Carreño returns to compete this week at the Internazionali di Tennis Città de Perugia, ATP Challenger 125 tournament, after returning to the courts at Roland Garros after overcoming the ordeal he suffered due to his elbow injury that has kept him away from the courts for a year and a half.

In an interview given to the tournament, Carreño expressed his feelings about returning to a competition that brings back good memories. “I am happy to have returned to this city, where I won the first edition of the Challenger in 2015 against Matteo Viola. I remember that I had my father and several special guests supporting me and I experienced great emotions.”

The Asturian tennis player also analyzed how his elbow injury is going and analyzed that, although he is fine, he still has some fear and has to pick up more pace. “My elbow injury? When you get injured you never know how long it will take you to get back to the best possible level, but I didn’t think I would have to stop for a year and a half. Now I feel good and the elbow didn’t bother me after my Roland Garros matchalthough I am still a little afraid when hitting the ball and I have to find my rhythm.”

A Carreño who does not hesitate when it comes to talking about his great goal after the injury: to repeat his medal at the Paris Games after winning bronze in Tokyo 2020. “The greatest hope I have is to play in the Paris Olympic Games. There is very little left, less than two months, but after having won the medal three years ago, the objective when it comes to having the mental strength to compete again has been to think about the Olympic Games. My idea is to shoot in these tournaments to try to get a medal in Paris. “I know I don’t have much time to reach a good level of tennis, but I will do everything possible to arrive prepared for the Games.”
