The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2024 places Chile at number 21 in a ranking of 146 economies, with a score of 50.2% parity.

This makes it the fourth country with the greatest equal representation in Latin America and the Caribbean, behind Nicaragua, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

According to the study, published this Wednesday, our country obtains a parity score 0.781on a scale in which 0 is the minimum in equal representation and 1 is absolute equalitydespite the fact that it is still far from achieving equity in economic participation, ranking as the 92nd country in the world.

The indices that stand out the most for their equal representation in the Chilean territory are the education, with a score of 0.990and the health, which has a parity of 0.971 pointswhile the representation in the fields of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics remains insufficientmade up of only 18.83% women.

Women are more affected than men regarding the percentages of unemployed adults, with a difference of 0.49 between both sexes, and of part-time workers, with a gap of 13.56, as well as in access to jobs. managers which is at 4.79 on a scale of 1 to 7, with 7 being the greatest possible equity.

Latin America and the Caribbean have experienced great progress in gender equality since 2006, with an overall improvement of 8.3 points in its gender parity indices and an overall score of 74.2%, as well as its highest economic parity score to date (65.7% ).

The region has also experienced encouraging improvements in participation rate in the active population, with a high level of female representation in professional and technical positions, reaching total parity in 68% of the region.

Although, on a global scale, the report shows that there are still five generations left to end the gender gap and that high-level political positions remain largely inaccessible to women, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Chile are the countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region that show the greatest gender balance at the ministerial level..
