Las Tunas increases delivery of lands in usufruct

Las Tunas.- More than 47,430 hectares of usufruct were delivered in Las Tunas, from January to date, for the raising of livestock and the promotion of various crops, after the approval of 3,900 applications.

In order to gradually eliminate idle lands with potential for agriculture and livestock, 4,885 files were processed, which supports notable growth for six consecutive years.

Yusimí Velázquez Velázquez, specialist in Agrarian Law of the provincial directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, told the Cuban News Agency that almost 500 applications are currently under review, figures that could increase considerably in the second half of the year. , also for the interest of the state sector.

In the eight municipalities of the province, he added, the requests of 46 companies and state organizations for self-consumption were approved; However, these figures are still ephemeral, since the intention is to link one hundred percent of all entities.

Although the increase in applications during 2024 is considerable, there are still fissures in the procedure for the possession of usufruct lands and, in those that are already used, production does not reach the predicted levels.

There are cases archived from the beginning, as there is no reliability or certainty that exhaustive use will be made for food production; others are eliminated once managed by the tenants, due to lack of tillage on the land, failure to comply with delivery plans or improper use, the specialist said.

The orders in the province stand out for producers related to raising livestock and planting vegetables and grains; However, the increase in authorizations for the harvest of tobacco, fruits and sheep and pork production is promising.
