The Provincial Council warms up for the selection of the 21st Córdoba Young Flamenco ContestCORDOVA

The Palacio de la Merced in Córdoba is now preparing to host the selection phase ofl 21st Young Flamenco Competitiona contest promoted by the Culture Delegation of the Provincial Council of Córdoba that has established itself in the world of flamenco for having seen the artistic birth of a large number of figures of this art.

The contest is structured in two phases; a selection and a final phase. The selection will take place tomorrow and the day after, June 13 and 14, in the White Patio of the Palacio de la Merced at 8:30 p.m.. Entry will be free until capacity is reached and the applicants you will have 20 minutes to carry out his performance. The final phase will be in Cervantes Theater Castro del Río on July 6 at 8:30 p.m.

The guitarist Paco Peña, member of the jury, took advantage of his intervention to remind young people of the need to unite the feeling and essence of flamenco art with discipline. “They have to learn to project in a way that makes vibrate people and hearts. That is the goal they have to achieve. The essence has to be yours, you do not act to impress, but for yourself, and then it is transmitted without straying from the roots,” Peña stressed.

29 people in contest

The Culture delegate of the Provincial Council of Córdoba, Gabriel Duque, explained that “in this edition A total of 29 people compete, 14 in dance (11 women and three men), seven in singing (two men and five women) and eight guitarists (seven men and one woman).”

According to the provincial deputy, “it is a high level competition, as demonstrated by the composition of the jury, which includes great figures such as Antonio FernándezPhosphoriteJosé Sánchez Gómez Pepe de Luciathe guitarist Paco Peña, the dancers Olga Pericet, Mercedes Ruiz Mercedes of Cordoba and the flamenco critic Manuel Martín Martín.”

The winners will receive from the Córdoba Provincial Council a prize consisting of nine performances, with the show that suits them, in the places determined by the organization. Those classified in second place will be awarded with a performance in the place determined by the organization.

The prizes awarded are the Antonio Fernández Díaz Fosforito Prize in the singing category, of 450 euros for each gala.(9 galas); the Vicente Amigo Prize in guitar, 450 euros per gala (9 galas); and the Blanca del Rey and Olga Pericet awards in dance, 1,100 euros each per gala (9 galas).
