Throughout Tuesday, June 11, residents of the Buenos Aires district blocked the road that leads from Picaleña to Gualanday, to protest the lack of drinking water for 45 days.

After the day of protest, the community decided to lift the blockade and agreed to meet this Wednesday, June 12, with the Mayor’s Office of Ibagué to find a solution to the problem. However, the Municipal Administration clarified that it is not the responsibility of the Ibaguereña Aqueduct and Sewage Company (IBAL).

“Our competition as an IBAL company reaches the limit given by our hydrosanitary perimeter, of which the rural sector of the capital of Tolima is not a part, for this reason.“We want to clarify that the situation that is being recorded in the Buenos Aires sector due to lack of drinking water supply to the community is not due to failures in the operation of elements of our infrastructure.”the company reported.

The residents of Buenos Aires claim that, for 45 days, the motor pump that was supposed to supply water to their homes has been damaged. Howeverthe agency in charge of requiring the contractor to repair the motor pump would be the Ministry of Environment and Risk Management.

“The Mayor’s Office has been supporting the correct functioning of the sector’s aqueducts, to overcome the difficulties that this population presents,” stated the Municipal Administration.

Finally, the IBAL maintained that in Ibagué the aqueduct system and the intakes that supply the urban perimeter of the city function normally.

At the moment we have a good water supply in the city and in our aqueduct networks no type of damage has been recorded in the main network that affects the continuity of the service for our users,” he concluded.
