The Cesar delegation achieved notable success by qualifying 16 athletes for the National Youth Games, which highlights the effort and dedication of its athletes. In the recent National Karate Do Tournament, held in Valledupar, in addition to these classifications, the department obtained a total of 7 medals: 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze. “The golds are very important as they are national pre-games and we are very happy with the classification of 16 athletes to the National Youth Games, and that gives a very positive balance for us,” commented Mauricio Blanco, coach of the Departmental League of Caesar’s Karate Do.

Valledupar hosted the National Karate Do Tournament, a sporting event that brought together 24 leagues and more than 1,200 athletes from various regions of Colombia. This competition not only stood out for the quality of the sport exhibited, but also because it served as a qualifier to structure the National Karate Team that will represent Colombia in international events, the next being the Karate Team World Cup in Pamplona, Spain, in November.

The president of the Colombian Karate Do Federation, Nuvis Del Carmen Negrete, highlighted the importance of bringing these events to the region: «We are bringing the processes to our region, as a good Cordoban and coastal native that I am. I have to say that the settings are beautiful, they have a very nice sports unit. The human warmth of the people of the coast, with the heat of the climate, are confused and we are carrying out this event,” she indicated.

The event was held at the Combat Coliseum of the La Gota Fría High Performance Sports Complex, which received praise from participating delegations for its excellent condition and suitability.

Roselín Parra, athlete from Córdoba, said: “Very nice, I didn’t expect this great stage, because here on the coast we have had deteriorated stages, but this one is very nice.” Meanwhile, Andrés Martínez, athlete from the Antioquia Delegation, added: “It is a very suitable setting for the tournament and has a very good bleacher space for people who come to enjoy the sporting spectacle.”

Cesar’s Secretary of Sports, Rayssa Rincón, said that “we are proud of the achievement achieved by our delegation, as well as the sporting level shown here. Governor Elvia Milena Sanjuan agrees that more competitions at this level and higher levels be developed here, with the series of scenarios we have.

This tournament not only strengthened the preparation of Colombian athletes, but also highlighted the organizational capacity and quality of the sports infrastructure that the Cesar Government has. This left the department very well positioned nationally, thanks to its outstanding capacity to host national and international sporting events.
