La Rioja asks for a balanced distribution of migrant minors

Logroño (EFE).- The spokesperson for the Government of La Rioja, Alfonso Domínguez, asked this Wednesday that the distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors between the autonomous communities be decided with “balanced” criteria in a Sectoral Conference on Childhood and Adolescence.

Domínguez, in the information conference after the Government Council, alluded to the communities’ decision to postpone the distribution of 400 minors from the Canary Islands and Ceuta until more details of the legislative reform that the Executive is preparing with the Canary Islands are known.

The spokesperson for the Rioja Executive has criticized that, while the councilors of the autonomous communities were meeting this Tuesday with the Ministry trying to adopt an agreement on the reception of unaccompanied minors, “in parallel, the Government of Spain announced a bilateral agreement with the Canary Islands , without knowledge of the other autonomies.”

Lack of loyalty

In his opinion, “this is not positive and it is not loyal,” because where these issues should be discussed is in multilateral forums between the State and all the autonomous communities, where agreements can be reached.

He has criticized that the Government of Spain announces agreements with a single autonomous community that “affect the rest of the autonomies”, which is why he has urged that the Sectoral Conference be resumed and a State agreement be reached with all the regions, based on “technical and solid” criteria.

Domínguez has assured that La Rioja is “prepared” to receive these migrant minors, as long as their number is “within the reception capacities” of the community.

In this sense, it has rejected the figure of 285 minors, which would correspond to La Rioja according to a document presented last April, because it has not been agreed upon in the body in which it should be agreed upon.
