The Senate owes this Wednesday the Base Law and the fiscal package promoted by the Government. It is estimated that the session will last until early Thursday morning. In parallel, protesters gather in the square in front of the National Congress, in the midst of a strong security operation.

The corner of the National Congress, at the intersection of Callao and Rivadavia, became a battlefield in which protesters and security forces clashed, from minutes before the 16 hours this Wednesday, June 12. Social organizations, picketers, leftists, Peronists, human rights organizations, neighborhood assemblies and unions demonstrate in rejection of the Bases Law that is being debated in the Senate and that already has half a sanction in deputies. The objective is to pressure parliamentarians to reject the Executive Branch’s initiative.

The police rearm when they can

The Federal Police evicted the protesters who mobilized at Congress to protest against the approval of the Bases Law, which continues to be debated in the Senate.

After 1:45 p.m., members of the federal police and the Prefecture advanced on the militants who were dispersed in different streets near Congress and took them to Bartolomé Miter Street to clear Callao Street from Congress.

Within the framework of the application of the anti-picketing protocol, around 1:30 p.m., two cordons of Prefectural and Federal Police personnel began to advance on Entre Ríos Avenue towards Corrientes Avenue to disperse all the protesters.

As the minutes passed, the tension began to increase, there was running, pushing, and the Federal Forces threw tear gas.

From the Unified Command, those close to Minister Bullrich affirmed that the decision of the Ministry of Security is to enforce the protocol but, in addition, that the legitimate right to claim is developed without incident. “Don’t think about throwing a stone or lifting a tile, because no, there are limits.”had warned Bullrich.

After 3 p.m., the tension dropped, stones, frozen water bottles and the remains of glass containers that the picketers threw at the Gendarmerie, the Prefecture and members of the Federal Police were left on the asphalt. That moment of relaxation was taken advantage of by the leaders of the operation to set up a second fence, one hundred meters from Rivadavia and Callao to circumscribe the most violent group.
