The intense rainfall recorded in recent weeks in Cesar continues to cause floods and emergency situations in this area of ​​the country.

The most complex situation occurs in 12 municipalities, being the most affected Aguachica, San Martín, El Paso and La Pazwhere floods have occurred after the overflowing of the hydrographic basins.

The ravages of the winter wave have affected more than 600 families in La Loma, township of El Paso, Cesar mining corridor.

“The numbers of affected families may be more, taking into account that the total census of other municipalities still needs to be quantified and we are waiting for the general diagnosis to give an accurate report,” highlighted Petra Romero, Director of the Risk Management Office. Cease.

Emergencies are also evident in the tertiary roads of Aguachica, where farmers join forces to be able to harvest their crops, since many are trapped in the mud.

Emergencies due to landslides are also recorded in the area, especially in the La Unión village.

For this reason, officials from the municipal administration of Aguachica work in coordination with the support of other municipalities surrounding this region, such as La Gloria (south of Cesar) and El Carmen (Norte de Santander).

In the same sense orange alert remains in place in the upper basin of the Cesar River due to the probability of sudden floods. The Ideam reported special attention on the banks of the Guatapurí and Badillo rivers in Valledupar.

From the Government of Cesar, technical support has been managed with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Managementwho sent professionals to advance the permanent monitoring of critical points.

“This work has been carried out with the support of the municipal authorities, this allowed us to have a more accurate analysis of the possible risks that the communities could face and adopt preventive actions,” the official stressed.

The national entity has also requested support for humanitarian food aid and yellow machinery, tank cars for water supply.

Likewise, inter-institutional working groups are held to review possible risks for indigenous communities, such as the case of the Kankuamo people. With them, commitments were strengthened and are already underway.
