Derived from the effects of the prolonged drought that has affected the Mexican territory during the last three years, the Local Directorate of the National Water Comission (Conagua), in coordination with the state government of San Luis Potosí and agricultural users, agreed to implement support actions for the supply of water for human consumption in Altamira, Ciudad Madero and TampicoTamaulipas.

In this regard, Joel Félix Díaz, local director of Conagua in the entity, explained that, as a temporary measure, 3.5 cubic meters per second (m3/s) of surface water is being sent from the Tampaon Riverlocated in the municipality of Ebonyin San Luis Potosí, to the Tamesí River, in Tamaulipas.

To carry out this work, the official reported, the pumping plants El Porvenir, Tulillo-Chapacao and the existing agricultural drainage system.

In that sense, the agency clarified that No locality in San Luis Potosí will be affected in the drinking water servicenor the agricultural activities carried out through the nine user associations of San Luis Potosí and Veracruz, which accepted this agreement, prioritizing the Human Right to Water as marked by the National Water Law.

Conagua added thate water delivery will only be made for 45 days or lessin the event of considerable rain, and that no environmental damage or pollution will be caused, since no works of any kind are required.

Finally, he explained that These national waters are already used by other federal entities.s, such as Veracruz, where about 20 localities are supplied, and that the economic expenses, mainly for electricity consumption and some rehabilitation actions of the pumping plants, will be covered by the state government of Tamaulipas.
