The Higher School of Design of La Rioja (Esdir) staged its ANIMAL project on the 6th, developed throughout this course within the framework of the #COVIDA program, promoted and sponsored by the CRIE (Rioja Center for Educational Innovation). . The theme chosen in this edition was translated, after passing through the creative sieve of the School’s students and teachers, into a hymn to primitivism, to the most visceral impulses, from a point of view of detachment from modern society.

When it came to materializing this proposal, the Esdir students opened their performance with a unique parade/procession, from the main door of the School to the CNT theater in Logroño, led by imaginary animals, whose skins and wooden scales They played with the origami technique.

Parade prior to the performance, Messura’s music and the parade.

Once at the theater on Los Baños Street, a series of strange creatures emerged from the depths of the forest of the philosopher Henry David Thoreau and his ‘Walden’, an essay from which this ANIMAL is inspired. Their clothes, the images made with artificial intelligence and projected during their parade, the live music of Messura and the poems of Diego Marín were adjusted to the four chapters of this animal story of ‘Walden’, based on the instinct to eat, of the corporal and spatial shelter, and to perpetuate the species.

Students from different degrees at Esdir have participated in this interdisciplinary educational project, and from such specific specialties as fashion, accessories and footwear, models and prototypes, branding, origami, photography, digital technology or ephemeral architecture. They were the architects of a scenography that intended, and succeeded, to be a reflection of the animal within us.

In addition to the La Rioja Higher School of Design, eleven other centers in La Rioja have participated in this 2024 edition of #COVIDA: artistic processes, an educational innovation project that promotes interdisciplinary work around the arts within educational centers . And where the work process is valued above its final result.
