In the midst of the negotiations carried out by the national government with the National Liberation Army (ELN), this Thursday it was learned that the armed group requested to be excluded from the list of terrorist groups that the European Union.

The information was made known to the Colombian ambassador in Spain, Eduardo Avila, ensuring that it is a process that has already begun and is led by the Spanish president Pedro Sánchez.
“The ELN has let them know that it wants to get off Europe’s list of terrorists. It is a job that Spain is willing to do”Ávila mentioned to El Espectador.
He added that the Colombian Government is already evaluating the request with several countries of the European Union and studying How would this benefit the negotiation process? that advances with the guerrilla in question.
Ávila also added in the national media that the process will be developed with a series of forums on peace in Colombia, where it will be used to inform the European community of the status of the dialogue with the ELN. All this would be done in the second half of 2024, with the start of new cycles of negotiations with the armed group.
