The president of the the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boricruled out that the recent purchase of weapons systems such as the fighter plane F-16 and the actions of Argentina’s Antarctic policy affect the relations between both countries.

The president indicated in an interview with Deutsche Wellewithin the framework of his tour to Europe that “with Argentina we share more than 3,000 kilometers of border and a common history. I am very clear that my presidency and that of the Argentine president are going to pass, but our institutions, and above all our towns, they will remain.”

“I am not going to contribute to tense relations with a brother country. Chile is not in any arms race,” the head of state stressed in the interview with the German media.

Regarding the dispute with Argentina over sovereignty in Antarctic territory, President Boric stated that “Chile has a very clear Antarctic vocation, we demonstrated it with the visit of the Secretary General of United Nations through Chile to Antarctica within the framework of the last COP (United Nations Conference on Climate Change)“.

“Antarctica is a continent of science and peace and Chile will continue to claim its claims in Antarctica precisely for that, so that it continues to be a continent of science and peace,” the president emphasized.
