The regional director of the Urbanization and Housing Service (Serviu), Rodrigo Uribe, indicated that since early Sunday morning studies have been carried out to determine the exact causes of the collapse. “We are investigating whether there were interventions by third parties that could have affected the collector.“, he noted, adding that earthworks and an unreported rainwater collector were found under a terrace of the building.

Added to this are the heavy rainfall expected in the coming days in the Valparaíso region, a fact that has generated great concern in the sector.

The impact of the sinkhole has been significant not only because of the danger it represents, but also because of the high value of the properties in the evacuated building. According to reports, the prices of the apartments in Euromarina II range between 5,600 and 11,500 UF, depending on their size and sea view. Monthly rents vary between $560,000 and $1,500,000, not including common expenses, which can amount to $350,000.
