The United States intelligence community believes that the government of Cuba will try to influence next November’s elections, intelligence officials told The Miami Herald newspaper.

According to a report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, made public in December 2023, the Cuban regime attempted in 2022 to affect the midterm elections in the state of Florida, with operations to denigrate certain candidates.

Towards the general elections on November 5, the Cuban regime would deploy specific campaigns to affect state and local races in Florida, according to officials’ assessment.

“We have seen interest in less relevant races,” one of the officials consulted told The Miami Herald, adding “as for Cuba, we expect the same type of activity to occur.”

Following last year’s Intelligence Community report, U.S. Rep. Carlos Giménez said he believed he and his Miami Republican colleagues, María Elvira Salazar and Mario Díaz-Balart, had been attacked, although he said U.S. intelligence was not aware. He had expressed it directly.

Cuba’s efforts are a cause for concern, as are attempted influence campaigns by Washington’s main adversaries in Russia, China and Iran.
